Currency Office Publishes First Statistics on Currency in Circulation

The Currency Office of the Velocity Interoperability Network today published its first statistical release on currency in circulation. The release records the position at the close of business on 5 September 2026, the day before establishment, and covers the Interim Issue of notes and coins that has circulated since 10 August 2026.

At that date, 4,190,000 notes with a face value of 61.2 million credits were in circulation, together with 12,700,000 coins with a face value of 4.21 million credits. Currency in circulation therefore stood at 65.41 million credits. The 50 credit note accounted for 38 per cent of the value of notes in circulation, and the 5 credit note for 39 per cent of the number.

The Office will publish statistics on currency in circulation quarterly, together with figures on notes and coins issued and withdrawn and on counterfeit detections. The next release, covering the quarter ending 31 December 2026, will be published in January 2027.
