Press Release
Currency Office Announces First Series of Banknotes and Coins
Office of the Spokesperson

The Currency Office of the Velocity Interoperability Network today announced the First Series of banknotes and coins of the Network. The series comprises notes of 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 credits and coins of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents and of 1 and 2 credits. It is the first currency designed and issued by the Office itself, and will replace the Interim Issue over the twelve months that follow.
The 5 and 10 credit notes and all eight coins enter circulation on Monday 5 October 2026. The 20 and 50 credit notes follow on Monday 2 November 2026, and the 100 credit note, the first of that denomination in the Network, on Monday 7 December 2026. Each note of the First Series carries nine security features, including a watermark, a windowed security thread, a colour-shifting numeral and raised marks by which the denomination can be identified by touch.
The Interim Issue remains legal tender alongside the First Series until 30 September 2027, and will be exchanged at the Office's counters at face value without limit of time thereafter. The full specifications of the notes and coins, the schedule of issue and the security features of the notes are set out on the Banknotes and Coins pages of this site.
